When’s the Medicare Open Enrollment Period?

Every year, Medicare’s open enrollment period is October 15 – December 7.

What’s the Medicare Open Enrollment Period?

Medicare health and drug plans can make changes each year—things like cost, coverage, and what providers and pharmacies are in their networks. October 15 to December 7 is when all people with Medicare can change their Medicare health plans and prescription drug coverage for the following year to better meet their needs.

How do people know if they need to change plans?

People in a Medicare health or prescription drug plan should always review the materials their plans send them, like the “Evidence of Coverage” (EOC) and “Annual Notice of Change” (ANOC). If their plans are changing, they should make sure their plans will still meet their needs for the following year. If they’re satisfied that their current plans will meet their needs for next year and it’s still being offered, they don’t need to do anything.

Mike Domme Insurance

Independent Broker

I started my career in Life & Health sales in April 1974 and I sold my first group case in June. I increased my knowledge by taking classes from Life Underwriters and then started my CLU classes and got my CLU designation five years later. I taught other new agents how to sell Life insurance for 12 years. I was then a CLU an a LUTCF. Several years later I got the CSA designation. That is a lot of letters after my name, but I am the type of guy that takes a contract apart to see how and why it works for the insurance company and for my client. This is especially true with annuities. Annuities have changed a lot sense I sold my first one.

I am licensed in IL and MO.

When Medicare came out, my older clients turned to me for long term care and Medicare supplements. I read what literature that was available and found products that fit what my clients wanted.

I started my career with Woodman Accident and Life, when they went out of the group business. I became an independent broker. Several years later, I worked as a Trainer for Met Life till they closed their office here in Quincy.

I had kept my group clients, so I worked that market in addition to the Medicare market. In January of this year, I started working with Sheila Behrens. Sheila is more knowledgeable about the senior market than anyone that I know. We decided to share our knowledge and an office at 200 North 8th Street, Suite 106, in Quincy, IL.

For 2015, I have completed my training for Medicare Advantage, Part D and The Affordable Health Care Act. So far, I have 15 Medicare supplement companies, four Medicare Advantage companies, and four companies for ACA. When the products for 2015 are released on October 1, I may license with more carriers. But only if it has a feature that I believe would be of benefit for some of my clients.

I have been married for 54 years to my wife Judy.  We have 4 girls, 4 keepers, 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
